Labor Concerns and Division of Wealth
Segment 1 | America's short history has shown remarkable growth, a distinct form of capitalism, and an unprecedented accumulation of wealth. However, as powerful and flush as America is, there are deep class divisions based on wealth and the ownership of business, and workers tend not to benefit as greatly from growth as the owners of the capital do. The history of America is really a history of how the ownership class and the working class relate. The American middle class is disappearing, and this must have consequences for the very fabric of our society. Jason is pleased to welcome two heralded observers of the labor struggle and American capitalism to the show, political cartoonists Gary Huck and Mike Konopacki.   [^]

Labor Law and Human Resources in Focus

Segment 2 | Jason did a show a few months ago with two cartoonists who draw about labor issues. Today, Jason is interviewing an attorney who has some experience representing unions as well as employers in labor and human resources issues. Labor and employment law and HR are relevant to corporate ethics and values; afterall, they are ideally about the fair and legal treatment of employees individually and as a workforce. And, of course, employers are people too and deserve fair treatment and protection from unwarranted legal action.

Leading a Business Ethically
Connection with Something Larger Than Yourself | Bob Hertel, Executive Director of the San Diego Leadership Initiative, and Jon Kramer, PhD, President of the organization, which specializes in "Servant Leadership," joined Jason for an interesting show. I also heard from Robert C. Hinkley, a corporate lawyer with some wonderful ideas on how we can get corporations who abuse the system, the people, and our planet to stop - and start doing the right thing. All three gentlemen relied on their vast experience and better impulses as they discussed issues such as: "What are common ethical principles in American business and in the corporate sector?" "Why have there been some serious corporate ethical lapses in the last year?" and "Can a business do good and do well at the same time?"    [^]

Lessons for Progressives
Jason's Soliloquy | There is much about progressivism in theory and practice that is worthy and honorable. The generosity, open-mindedness, and independence that underlies progressivism in philosophy and politics makes the struggle right and unassailable. Yet political conservatism has been quite successful since Richard Nixon. If progressives' hearts are in the right place, and if they're right on a lot of policy issues, then what gives? How can we successfully proceed as a nation and a world in such a way that our grandchildren will honor us?    [^]

Liberal is Not a Bad Word
Segment 1 | The word "liberal" is either misunderstood, abused, or detested by the majority of America's populace. However, in politics and in education, "liberal" is the bedrock and the hope of Western civilization. Indeed, today's show features two guests who are strongly pushing for liberalism and progress in how the West educates children and develops public policy. A case will be made that philosophical is preferred to authoritarian, and that progressive is superior to dogmatic.   [^]

Liberty & Its Threats

Segment 1 | Liberty is one of humankind's most fundamental and sought-after values. What does the word really mean? What level of liberty is appropriate for citizens to rightfully enjoy? How does libertarianism compare to liberalism and conservatism? Why has our liberty here in America been reduced in the past years?

Living with Honor
Segment 1 | To balance the shows about "doing the right thing in the workplace," Scott Farrell, founder of Chivalry Today, will join Jason to discuss living with honor. For example, how do you play sports with integrity? How can you deal with people who are more like thieves than knights? Why should each of us try to have a sense of inner-strength that guides us toward the good? Scott is the founder of ChivalryToday.com, a website chock-full of resources for understanding and applying chivalry positively in one's life. Tune in to hear the discussion between Jason and Scott, two men steeped in Medieval and Renaissance lore. In fact, Scott is honored to have just secured a contract to write the book "Seven Quests for a Life of Honor: Playing, Working and Living by the Code of Chivalry in Today's World" in 2006.    [^]
