Quotation of the Day

"Hate is everywhere because it is a part of human nature...the worst part. But it is also part of human nature to oppose it vigorously - with every fiber of our being. When people do that, they express what is best in us."
  -- Elie Wiesel

Relationships and Social Policy that Foster Moral Development and Caring

Segment 1 | One of the things that could make a major difference in the quality of life and the greatness of America would be to raise children that are almost always safe, secure, happy, healthy, moral, and well-adjusted. But what are the elements of this goal? How will that be accomplished? What effect will a redoubled commitment to the education (including character education) of our children mean in their adulthood? What are elements of caring, healthy relationships? How do you educate a moral person? What types of social policy could actually be enacted?

Religion in Today's World
Segment 1 | If you read the newspaper, you undoubtedly come across story after story about radical Muslims killing themselves to destroy others, radical Christians in America talking about assassinating world leaders, much of the American social service sector being converted to "faith-based" providers, and a litany of issues related to religion such as abortion, gay marriage, and the pledge of allegiance. In addition to the positive, personal aspects of believing in a higher power, religion has, for centuries, been a divisive, misleading factor in civilization. It is also an effective way to influence persons' minds, as can be seen in George Bush's public faith, as well as the Islamo-fascist countries in the Middle East.    [^]
