The Wise Would Uniformly Call for Trump’s Ouster

"The wise" on Donald Trump October 7th, 2019

I am sick to DEATH of Donald Trump. I knew he was a disgrace to this country when he first threw his slimy hat in the ring (in 2015). And it has been virtually nothing but downhill since. There are a couple of things he has done that were “standard, prudent, proper, patriotic” but mostly it is throwing red meat to his base, defending his ego, and enriching himself and his friends. It’s really worse than predicted to be – which is saying a lot! There is no wisdom in continuing down this same path of obfuscation, autocratic maneuvering, dark political machinations, and utter abrogation of wholesome values. And yet, today, one of the most repugnant and ludicrous statements I have ever read (and I have read a lot!) came out of his Twitter-addicted thumbs: “As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off-limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!).” I have been studying wisdom for quite some time, and I can assure you, dear reader, this man possesses less wisdom than most adolescent males. My thesis is that the wise would uniformly call for Trump’s ouster. I can say this with absolute confidence, based on what I know of “the wise” (as esoteric and ethereal as that concept may be). By the wise I am referring to wisdom incarnate; those who are in possession of uncanny wisdom, if you will).

Fake News in Trump’s America

fake news January 26th, 2019

Throughout the country’s short existence, the most authoritarian Presidents have been, in order: John Adams, George Dubya Bush, Woodrow Wilson, Andrew Jackson, and Donald Trump. There are grumblings on the Right that Obama was somewhat abusive of his power, and I think that case can be made (certainly, journalists and Freedom of Information Act seekers were very disappointed in him). I intend this essay to be about the psychology underlying political beliefs, and the hot-button topic in this realm is, perhaps with a plethora of absurdity, uttered by Trump almost daily: the term fake news. Trump most likely coined the term fake news, and though he is but a con-man, truth, lies, and deception predate him – laying bare the idiocy of our whole politico-cultural system.

Modern Liberalism & Progressive Principles

progressive principles August 11th, 2018

I have been watching and rooting for liberalism and progressivism for decades now. One person who has been doing it for a lot longer, who is educated a lot further, and who boasts a significantly better employment history is the historian, journalist, author, professor, and Nation columnist, Eric Alterman. One could hardly do better if one wanted to get the gist of liberalism, progressive economics/politics, progressive principles, and a fair characterization of “liberals” than to read Alterman. In this blog, I share some of the wisdom that packs his readable book Why We’re Liberals. Here is an example of the truthful and justified case he makes for by liberalism and progressive principles are legitimate and laudable:

Journalism: Its About Truth and Integrity

journalism May 11th, 2018

It seems like every day we hear Donald Trump mock, deride, impugn, and belittle the news media as “fake” or sub-par. If I had to register my agreement or disagreement with that assessment, I would say I am 75% “calling bullshit” on him, and 25% in agreement. In this blog, I will share a few thoughts about the state, dignity, role, function, ethics, potential, and problems of modern newspapers, magazines, newszines, and television and cable news networks. Blogs I don’t know too much about so I will leave alone. In a word, I believe that journalism is marred by some tragic flaws, if you will, but has enough potential that we need to enliven, rehabilitate, and bolster it.
